Have you ever wondered what to say about climate change and fossil fuels?
Us too. Actually, it’s the question that obsesses our team here at Fossil Free Media.
We’re a nonprofit media lab that supports the movement to break free from fossil fuels. And everyday, we wake up thinking about the most effective arguments to combat industry propaganda, pushback on new fossil fuels projects, and accelerate the clean energy future that science and justice demand.
Over the last two years, we’ve been sending out talking points to our friends at grassroots groups and national coalitions who are taking on the fossil fuel industry. When gas prices spiked, we quickly pointed out why Big Oil was to blame. When the industry tried to push for “permitting reform,” we explained why it was a “dirty deal” for the climate and our communities.
But there’s something we’ve been missing: you.
When you sign up for Fossil Free Memo, you’ll join a growing grassroots network of people who are passionate about finding the most effective ways to spread the truth about fossil fuels, clean energy, and the climate emergency.
Each week, our team at Fossil Free Media will send you clear and effective talking points related to the latest news about fossil fuels. We’ll give you the tools you need to pushback on climate disinformation, advocate for clean energy, and, yes, convince your uncle that gas stoves really are bad for your health. And we’ll make sure it’s all back by research and something the fossil fuel industry seems allergic to: facts.
This is a critical moment in the climate fight. The fossil fuel industry knows that its time has come, so it’s spending billions of dollars a year to spread disinformation about clean energy and the climate emergency.
That disinformation isn’t just playing out on our TV screens and social media feeds, it’s flowing directly into our communities via paid hacks and industry front groups. It’s all part of a sophisticated propaganda network with one goal in mind: holding back clean energy and preventing the transition away from fossil fuels.
We’re never going to match the industry dollar-for-dollar, so we need to find another way to push back against their disinformation machine: people power.
By working together, we can spread the truth about fossil fuels and clean energy with factual and effective talking points designed to convince even the toughest skeptics.
Let’s build this together
Between our team members here at Fossil Free Media, we have decades of experience working in climate communications and the movement for climate justice. We’ve run dozens of media trainings, prepped hundreds of spokespeople for interviews, and written more talking points and tweets than we care to remember.
You can count on us to make sure that our talking points are well-researched, effective, and (unlike our friends over in the fossil fuel industry) factual and accurate.
But we also want to hear from you.
What do you need to make the case for clean energy at the local level?
What fossil fuel disinformation are you seeing pop up on your social media feeds?
What talking points have you found are most convincing with that tough uncle of yours?
This experiment will be most successful if we work together. Leave us a comment. Shoot us an email. Send us a tweet. And please share this newsletter with everyone you know.
Together, we can be the antidote to fossil fuel disinformation and help build the fossil free future that our climate and communities deserve.
Let’s start talking.
